A family-friendly attraction

BODY WORLDS is fun for all ages
Visit with kids

Maybe you wouldn’t say so at first glance but BODY WORLDS Amsterdam is actually very suitable for kids. Millions of children around the world have already made the journey through the human body at one of the exhibitions, and we are ready to welcome many more. If you’re looking for family-friendly attractions in Amsterdam, you’ve found the right place.

We recommend our exhibition for children over the age of 6, but younger children are also welcome. We do advise to prepare your children before for your visit, so they understand what they are going to see. We’ve gathered some useful information for you to help with that!

Visiting BODY WORLDS Amsterdam with children

BODY WORLDS is a beautiful exhibition where you can take a look inside your own body. You learn everything about our anatomy, health and the effects of happiness. It offers you a unique chance to get a better understanding of your body. The exhibition consists of more than 200 anatomical specimens of real human bodies, which are preserved by Dr. Gunther von Hagens ‘plastination technique’.

‘Plastination’ is a technique where body fluids are replaced by a sort of silicone rubber. The bodies are dry, odourless and will last longer than Egyptian mummies! The skin has been removed from the so-called ‘plastinates’, so all bones, muscles, nerves, veins, and organs are revealed and visible. All the bodies that are used in the exhibition are donated by people who in life decided to donate their body to BODY WORLDS for educational purposes. Long after they have passed away, their bodies will teach you everything there is to know about the human anatomy.

The ‘plastinates’ are positioned in a large variety of active poses. This way you can see which muscles and body parts you use when you for instance jump or dance or play the saxophone. You can see the influences of your choices on your body. How smoking affects your lungs for instance, or how an artificial knee or hip looks inside your body. Besides anatomy, the exhibition teaches you about happiness and its effects on your body. You learn that happy people live longer and also how to stay happy and healthy yourself.
